April 1st Proclaimed National Walking Day in Socorro County

Socorro County employees will be kicking off National Walking Day with a group training and kick off at Clarke Field on Wednesday, April 1st at 5:10 PM. We will host a certified trainer who will share stretching and exercise tips.

WHEREAS, over 68 percent of American adults (more than 154 million) are overweight or obese — and this number continues to grow; and

WHEREAS, sedentary jobs have increased 83 percent since 1950 and lost productivity due to chronic health problems costs corporate America about $183 billion each year; and

WHEREAS, more than one in three American adults have some form of cardiovascular disease (by 2030, this number is expected to reach almost 45 percent); and

WHEREAS, Socorro County is dedicated to promoting healthy habits and well being among its employees and citizens; and

WHEREAS, National Walking Day is April 1, 2015; and

WHEREAS, the American Heart Association encourages participation in National Walking Day;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the Board of County Commissioners of Socorro County, does hereby proclaim April 1, 2015 as

“Get Out & Walk Day”

in Socorro County as does hereby encourage all Socorro County officials, employees, schools and residents to participate in National Walking Day activities by offering practical health information, tips and resources to help people adopt a healthier lifestyle; improving morale, team-building and productivity; and letting our employees know we care about their health.
