The Derby is a partnership of individuals, community organizations, businesses and governmental agencies for the benefit of our community, especially our youth. There are three primary goals for the fishing day:
1. To teach youth about sportsmanship, ethics and fishing techniques.
2. To provide a positive, fun and safe activity for our youth that they will continue to enjoy for years.
3. To provide a recreational activity for youth to spend with their families or other responsible adults.
7:00-8:00 am – Registration at the tent
8:00 am – Fishing Begins!
10:00 am-12:00 pm – Measuring fish – only one fish per angler by the Socorro Valley Bass Club.
12:00 noon – Fishing ends – be in line to measure your longest trout
12:00 noon – Adults can start fishing
12:20 pm – ALL youth angles please gather at the registration tent for the announcement of the longest fish and raffle winners (Bring YELLOW/WHITE Raffle Ticket)
All youth anglers (ages 3 through 17) must be registered for the derby to receive the free jar(s) of bait, lunch, and raffle prizes. Derby is only for youth, Adults can fish after 12:00 noon . The Socorro Valley Bass Club members will be measuring the length of each angler’s longest trout, (only one fish per registered angler). In order to find your name on the registration sheet, please remember your registration number. (topright corner)
Youth anglers, (12 through 17 years of age) must have a valid New Mexico State fishing license that cost $5.00 and the $1.00 fee. Youth anglers do not need to purchase a Habitat stamp for Escondida lake. A free lunch of a hot dog, chips and a drink is provided for only registered participating youth anglers by the Socorro Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Chapter #24, Socorro County General Hospital, Aerojet employees and volunteers (bring GREEN lunch coupon). Coffee and lunch will be sold to adults with proceeds given for next year’s derby prizes. The Derby sponsors are not responsible of accidents and injuries. Have a safe and fun day.
