County Treasurer Now Accepting Pre-payments on Property Taxes

Socorro, N.M (May 15, 2015) – Following a recommendation by Socorro County Treasurer Tina Lujan, the Board of County Commissioners of Socorro County approved Resolution 2015-35 authorizing the pre-payment of property taxes in certain situations pursuant to NMSA 1978, Section 7-38-38 et seq.

Lujan stated, “It is our goal to give Socorro County residents more options for paying their property taxes; this is something that will aid residents who would prefer making smaller consecutive payments rather than lump sum payments once or twice a year.” This move is in line with similar convenience tools introduced by the Treasurer’s office, such as the ability to pay property taxes online.

Taxpayers will now have two options for prepayment. Option one is to make installment payments of 25% of the estimated tax bill on or by July 10th and January 10th. The second half and first half bill due dates will remain as November 10th and May 10th.

Option two is for 10 monthly payments beginning June 1st through March 1st.

The new resolution will now also allow the Treasurer’s office to apply overpayments on a property tax bill to the next tax year. Taxpayers may still request a refund of the overpayment via written request within 60 days of overpayment.

The Socorro County Treasurer encourages taxpayers to take advantage of this new authorization. For more information please contact the Socorro County Treasurer’s Office at (575) 835-1701 or visit online at:
