NMED and NM-DOH will be offering free water testing for private wells serving homes not connected to a public water utility to residents of Veguita and surrounding communities of Socorro County.

WHEN: Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 9 a.m.—2 p.m.
WHERE: Veguita Senior Center, 894 Highway 304 #6, Veguita, NM 87062

Tests include Electrical Conductivity, Sulfate pH, Nitrate Fluoride, Arsenic, Iron & Manganese

HOW TO COLLECT WATER SAMPLE
  • Use a clean glass or plastic container that holds at least a quart of water (such as a 1-liter soda bottle or gallon milk jug) without any strong odors.
  • Collect the water before it runs through any water treatment/filters such as a R.O., a carbon filter, or a water softener. (If the home has a whole house filtration system, collect the water at the well head).
  • Let the water run a couple of minutes before collecting the sample.
  • Fill the bottle with the water as close to the time of testing as possible (right before coming to the event).
  • Label the bottle with your name, address, and phone number.
If available, provide well coordinates, well depth, depth to water, well casing material (i.e., steel, pvc) and distance from well to the nearest septic tank/leachfield system. Form more information, go to http://nmtracking.org/water.
