Socorro County BOCC Honors Magdalena Steers with a Special Proclamation

WHEREAS, the Magdalena Steers Varsity Boys’ Basketball Team 2014-2015 season with a 31-0 record, was outstanding, exciting and historic; and 

WHEREAS, the Steers easily secured the 2A District 3 Title with a win over Cloudcroft and earned the #1 seed for the State Championship Tournament; and 

WHEREAS, the Steers capped their season with a 61-60 victory over the Logan Longhorns to win the New Mexico State Class 2A Basketball Championship title; and 

WHEREAS, the Magdalena Varsity Boys’ Basketball Team was led throughout this season by their Head Coach Jory Mirabal, who has coached for the Magdalena Steers for 8 seasons now with an overall record of 167-59, and had help from assistant coach Clay Clark; and

WHEREAS, The Magdalena Varsity Boys’ Basketball Team consists of Team Captains Dre Montoya and Tyler Julian with players Richie Chavez, Michael Chambers, Jerry Torres, Jorrell Mirabal, Brandal Padilla, Barak Stephens, Anthony Pino, JB Britton, Zach Pino, Dequan Apachito, and Kindell Kelly and with managers Cy Kellis, Kyle Julian, Jaxson Mirabal and Joren Mirabal.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the County of Socorro wishes to formally recognize the 2014- 2015 Magdalena Varsity Boys’ Basketball Team for their historically successful season, their great sportsmanship as demonstrated in cities and basketball courts across the State and their teamwork approach to basketball that was marveled by all who followed their games throughout the successes this group of young men experienced under the leadership of Coach Mirabal;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Board of County Commissioners of Socorro County, does hereby convey this very special recognition by way of this proclamation, to the 2014-2015 Magdalena Steers Varsity Boys’ Basketball Team and wish to congratulate them for their exceptional achievements on this, the 24th Day of March, 2015
