Rio Abajo Community Library

The Rio Abajo Community Library (RACL) is located in historic La Joya, New Mexico. The library is within a restored adobe building located at 28 Calle de Centro, Sur, La Joya, NM 87028.

The library is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 AM-6:00 PM, and Fridays from 9:00 AM-1:00 PM.

RAC Library is primarily owned and financed via the donations and volunteers of the 14 rural villages in northern Socorro County.  Hence, the latest and greatest equipment, furnishings and books may not be available, but the quality, service and comfort found here makes this a popular spot for everyone.

For public use the library has:

  • Computers with high speed internet service
  • Printed materials for every age and interest
  • Tapes, both audio and VHS, CDs, DVDs
  • Inter library loan service
  • Access to New Mexico State Library resources including data bases
  • Spanish language materials for children and adults
  • Copying services
  • Fax services
  • Notary services
  • A free monthly newsletter regarding Northern Socorro community information and news
  • A "Free Shelf" where resources, food and items are provided for the taking
