Michael Hawkes

Socorro County is pleased to announce the selection and appointment of Michael Hawkes as the new Socorro County Manager. With his extensive and diverse background, Hawkes will be an incredibly asset to Socorro County. Hawkes has been involved with program management, policy development, planning, grant-writing and administration, training development, budgeting, human resources, corporate operations and so much more.

Hawkes was born and raised in Belen, New Mexico, one of nine brothers and five sisters. He and his wife Audrey (a former Socorro County Clerk) are very involved Community members throughout the County and State of New Mexico. Hawkes also serves as a Trustee for the Socorro Electric Cooperative.

Hawkes holds a bachelor’s degree from New Mexico Tech and a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of New Mexico.

He retired as a Deputy Chief/Inspector with the New Mexico State Police, assigned to Uniform, Narcotics and OPSIA. He also served as CEO of ANSBI (Alamo Navajo School Board Inc.), $42 million, 300 employee company with divisions in Health Services, Education, Community Services and Administration. As Project Manager with NMT/EMRTC training division, Mr. Hawkes has managed several projects with the FEMA funded national first responder training.
